july 5th (thursday), 17:00 s.t. at the Geologisches Institut
This field camp will focus on the study of tectonic structures and processes
in the French Alps. It is open to up to 12 participants. It will basically
be a long distance hike across the Northern French Alps. The whole distance
will be covered by foot and participants must be physically fit for long
distance mountain hiking (including carriage of their own equipment, food
and water).
The area covered will include parts of the Bornes, Beaufortain, Mont-Blanc,
Tarentaise and Vanoise Massives). No specific knowledge of the geology
of the French Alps is necessary but knowledge of basic tectonic structures
(faults, folds, thrusts,...) is required.
The overall cost should not exceed 650 DEM, including transportation,
food and lodging, and will be kept as low as possible.
The whole excursion will be conducted in English.
Deadline for registration to that field camp is July 20th 2001. An
information meeting will be scheduled for middle July.
