The project includes the construction and deformation of a scaled model of the Higher
Himalaya Lithosphere using rock analogue materials. The aim is to investigate the
mechanical and thermal effects of vertical ductile extrusion of rock masses in a mountain belt
relating to continental collision. The deformation rig is currently under construction and will
be operational by December 1997.
Salary will be 50% of BAT IIa on the German public service payscale. Depending on age and qualification, this relates to a net monthly income of DM 1500 to DM 2000.
